Privacy Policy

The short version. Your conversations are processed on our own servers in the United States. The AI that replies to you runs on our hardware; we don't send your conversations to outside AI companies. We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. You can delete your data at any time.

This policy explains what SmartWaves LLC ("Dereal", "we") collects when you use Dereal, why, and the choices you have. Dereal is an AI wellbeing coach for adults in the United States; it is not a healthcare provider.

1. What we collect

Account details from Google sign-in: your name, email address, and profile picture.
Your conversations: the text of what you say (typed, or transcribed from your voice) and the coaches' replies.
Voice: when you talk, your audio is converted to text on our servers. We don't keep the audio of your conversations.
Things the app learns to keep context: short notes the coaches remember (for example, names of people you mention or goals you set), themes from your conversations, and session summaries.
What you enter directly: settings, preferences, check-ins, reflections, journal entries, and answers to optional questionnaires.
Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and service logs used to keep Dereal running and secure.

Some of this, like how you're feeling, may be considered health-related or sensitive information under some state laws. We treat it with extra care and only use it as described here.

2. How we use it

To run the service: reply to you, remember context you've shared, and show you your own history and progress.
To keep you safe: if a message suggests you may be in danger, the coach responds with crisis resources such as 988.
To keep Dereal secure, fix problems, and improve how it works.
To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, share it for targeted advertising, or use your conversations to train AI models.

3. Who we share it with

Google, only to sign you in.
Service providers that host or support our infrastructure, under contracts that limit their use of your data to providing that service.
Legal reasons: if required by law, or to protect someone's safety, or our rights.
Business transfers: if Dereal is merged or sold, your data may transfer under this policy; we'll tell you first.

4. How long we keep it

Account data and conversations: until you delete them or your account.
If you choose not to keep conversations: each conversation, and anything learned from it, is deleted within a few minutes of closing it (and within 15 minutes at most).
Encrypted backups: up to 30 days after deletion.
Service logs: up to 30 days. They record that a conversation happened and how long replies were, not what you or the coach said.

5. Your choices and rights

Don't keep conversations: choose it during setup or in Settings. Your coach remembers within a conversation; when you close it, the conversation is deleted. Your account, settings, and things you save on purpose (like habits or journal entries) stay.
Delete: you can clear what the coaches remember, or delete your whole account and its data, from Settings.
Access and export: you can ask for a copy of your data.
Correct: you can update your profile and settings, or ask us to correct data.
Withdraw consent for optional features at any time in Settings.

Depending on your state (for example California, Washington, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, or Oregon), you may have additional rights. To use any right, contact us at [email protected]. We won't treat you differently for exercising them. You can appeal a decision by replying to our response.

6. Security

We use access controls, encryption for backups, and keep each person's data separate. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we'll notify you as the law requires.

7. Adults only

Dereal is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete it.

8. Changes

If we change this policy in a significant way, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
